Getting to <strong>El Altar - Ecuador<\/strong> will be just the beginning of a new life.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>El Altar is an extinct volcano located in the Andean mountain range of Ecuador.<\/strong>, <strong>is famous for its 12 snow-capped peaks over 5,000 metres high in the shape of the letter C<\/strong>The yellow lagoon is protected and hidden from the rest of the world. And the only way to get there is through the uncovered site, a trekking circuit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Visit\nthe El Altar Trek circuit <\/strong>\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before starting our adventure, acclimatisation is very important, so we recommend spending a couple of days in the area before ascending the mountain. <strong>The weather on this route is often very unpredictable.<\/strong>. Rain is common, so be prepared with clothes and shoes for the occasion.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our adventure begins in Riobamba<\/strong>There are different starting points to reach our goal: the Altar. <strong>The walk will be uphill<\/strong> and depending on the weather, it can be a bit slippery and even difficult because of the mud. You will definitely have a fun adventure. <strong>As you climb, you will be accompanied by an incredible view, snow-capped peaks and beautiful vegetation. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After 7 hours of walking the route starts to get much better.<\/strong>. Our first station is in the heart of a hut on a hill that is made small by the majestic landscape with El Altar in the background. <strong>Here you can spend up to 2 days<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The ascent is really difficult given the weather conditions.<\/strong>However, the rewards are much greater. <strong>El Altar and its surroundings will undoubtedly surprise you.<\/strong>. You will be able to enjoy a view that is unique in the world, next to <strong>the yellow lagoon<\/strong> over the iconic dead volcano. Don't forget to bring your camera to catch every moment in this incredible mountain range.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What you need for trekking in El Altar <\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike other routes such as <strong>the Huyahuash circuit<\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/travesiapirenaica.com\/en\/ausangate-trekking-peru\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Ausangate Trek<\/a><\/strong> in Peru, <strong>this circuit is much shorter and faster<\/strong>and therefore <strong>you won't need much luggage<\/strong> to complete it. Thanks to the hut, you will only need a small bag in which you will need to carry important tools and equipment for the journey.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Camping tent:<\/strong> At the end of the trail you will probably be exhausted, so a good tent to rest in is vital. <strong>Remember to get a sleeping bag and blankets.<\/strong> for the cold.  <\/li><li><strong>Clothing and footwear:<\/strong> you don't want to be soaked if it rains. Altar Trek is known for its rain. That's why, <strong>it is very important to have waterproof clothing and high boots.<\/strong>.  <\/li><li><strong>Food and drink<\/strong>The route will take you only 2 days to go up and down, <strong>it is very important that you take enough food with you<\/strong>You can even take the luxury of bringing something special to share with your friends in the hut. It is very important to bring as much water as you can.  <\/li><li><strong>Security<\/strong>Be cautious, remember to take your mobile phone with you, a <strong>first aid kit, extra food, a security bracelet<\/strong>and leave an itinerary of the trip with a friend.  <\/li><li><strong>Accessories<\/strong>You'll probably bring your camera, but <strong>it is also important that you carry a lighter<\/strong>batteries, torch, sunglasses, hats, <strong>rain jacket, waterproof bags<\/strong>, watch, compass, <strong>toilet paper, towels<\/strong>your ID, permits and passport.  <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that you will spend only 2 days, <strong>and keeping comfortable and light to climb the difficult Altar trail is crucial.<\/strong>. And if you do not tolerate rainy climates, <strong>we recommend you to visit the route during the summer season: July and August.<\/strong>. Check your diary and make plans, you won't regret visiting the yellow lagoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tips for trekking in El Altar like an expert <\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Plan and search <\/strong>all the information you need about this incredible circuit so that you don't lose sight of any detail during the tour. <\/li><li>Before starting, <strong>it is highly recommended to take a few days to get to know the region and to acclimatise.<\/strong>. You don't want to get halfway there. <\/li><li><strong>Check <\/strong>that you carry everything you need in your bag before you leave. <\/li><li>Unless you are a professional,<strong> it is advisable to join an excursion group. <\/strong> <\/li><li>Despite the fact that El Altar is a short route<strong>don't forget to use the map<\/strong> and\/or GPS, you will be surprised what you can describe. <\/li><li>If you travel in summer<strong> remember to wear sunscreen and sunglasses <\/strong> <\/li><li><strong>It is very important that you learn how to use first aid.<\/strong> before travelling on this and other circuits  <\/li><li><strong>We recommend that you bring extra clothing<\/strong> to change in the hut <\/li><li><strong>Too much rain?<\/strong> If your socks are wet, don't hesitate to change them for dry ones. <\/li><li><strong>Take 10-minute breaks<\/strong>you don't want to faint  <\/li><li>For this type of adventure, cotton clothing is forbidden.<strong>wear only waterproof clothing <\/strong> <\/li><li>If you are not yet familiar with your camping tent, <strong>we recommend that you practice at home<\/strong> so that you are not the laughing stock of the group, or even to avoid accidents.  <\/li><li><strong>Don't deviate<\/strong> of the road  <\/li><li><strong>Do not feed animals<\/strong> wild  <\/li><li><strong>Buy a good rain jacket<\/strong> <\/li><li><strong>Enjoy <\/strong>the crossing  <\/li><li><strong>Be respectful and generous<\/strong> with your colleagues  <\/li><li><strong>Remember to bring a camera<\/strong> with you to take advantage of the incredible scenery  <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The El Altar Trek circuit is perhaps one of the shortest in the world.<\/strong>.
