Located between Rome and Florence, the region of Umbria, colloquially known as the \"Green Heart\" of Italy, is dotted with UNESCO World Heritage cities. It encompasses the towns of Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto and Norcia. Excursions pass through flower meadows, down river valleys and also climb the rugged hills and mountains of the Apennines, visiting Roman and Etruscan ruins as well as countless ancient villages. The landscape, like that of neighbouring Tuscany, is one of rolling hills and deep forests, without the crowds of other well-known Italian holiday regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
