The Massif des Écrins, in the French Alps, is mostly a national park, with peaks over 3,000 metres high. Easily accessible from Grenoble, the Massif des Écrins is one of the most spectacular regions in all the Alps, full of romantic villages and hamlets huddled in the valleys, with bold glacier-hung mountains and more than 100 peaks over 3,000 metres high. Hundreds of kilometres of well-marked trails and a network of alpine huts make the Ecrins a perfect destination for mountaineers.

The highest peaks form a block at the very heart of the range, with a variety of valleys surrounding or extending from it: Vallée de la Romanche, Vallée de la Guisane, Vallée de la Vallouise, Valgaudemar, Valjouffrey and Vallée du Vénéon.
