{"id":23301,"date":"2015-01-13T17:23:00","date_gmt":"2015-01-13T16:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/travesiapirenaica.com\/?p=23301"},"modified":"2024-08-22T09:04:05","modified_gmt":"2024-08-22T07:04:05","slug":"picos-de-europa-ring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travesiapirenaica.com\/en\/anillo-picos-de-europa\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ring of Picos de Europa: a route to get to know the National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Anillo de Picos or the Rings, are three circular routes of different lengths through the Picos de Europa.<\/strong> The <strong>Vindio Ring<\/strong> is the shortest of the three and runs through the Vidios Mountains in the Western Massif or Cornion Massif, the <strong>Extrem Ring<\/strong> covers the first route and adds the central massif or the Urrieles massif, and the <strong>Ring 3 solid<\/strong> incorporates the 2 previous routes and also runs through the Eastern Massif or \u00c1ndara Massif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The route can be completed in approximately 3 stages for the <strong>Vindio Ring<\/strong>6-7 for the <strong>Extrem Ring<\/strong> and about 9 for the <strong>Ring 3 Solid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highest peaks are to be found in the Central Massif, with some exceeding 2,600m in height, such as Torre Cerredo (2,650m) or Llambri\u00f3n (2,642m), although the most emblematic peak is undoubtedly Naranjo de Bulnes or Pico Urriellu (2,519m). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ring of Peaks is a <strong>route designed by the rangers of the refuges<\/strong> The aim of the project is to raise awareness of its natural beauty spots and to promote trekking in the area. <strong>The different routes link the existing refuges in circular circuits.<\/strong>hence the name of the Ring. The refuges it passes through are: Vegarredonda, Vegaba\u00f1o, Vega de Ario, Collado Jermoso, Caba\u00f1a Ver\u00f3nica, Vega de Urriellu, Jou de Cabrones, Tenerosa and Caset\u00f3n de \u00c1ndara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vindios Mountains are the name of a sector of the Picos de Europa that served as a refuge for the Cantabrian tribe of the Vadinians, who were the last to fight against the Romans. The route also takes you into the foothills of the <strong>Pe\u00f1a Santa de Castilla, Posada de Valde\u00f3n, Torre del Friero or Caba\u00f1a Ver\u00f3nica<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it is a circular route, the&nbsp;<strong>Ring of Picos de Europa<\/strong>&nbsp;can be done in either direction. The start of the route can be any of the places accessible by car that the route passes close by, such as Poncebos, Sotres, Valde\u00f3n or the lakes of Covadonga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modalities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Officially, the following have been set up<strong> 3 modalities<\/strong> to follow the route. Mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Massif<\/strong>This circuit covers the Western Massif (Cornion).<\/li><li><strong>Distance:&nbsp;<\/strong>The total distance is 63 km long.<\/li><li><strong>Unevenness: &nbsp;<\/strong>The difference in altitude is + 3,900 m.<\/li><li><strong>No. of stages:<\/strong>&nbsp;The circuit consists of 4 stages.<\/li><li><strong>Difficulty:&nbsp;<\/strong>The difficulty of this ring is medium.<\/li><li><strong>Aimed at<\/strong>Intermediate level mountaineers can do it.<\/li><li><strong>Shelters:<\/strong>&nbsp;The refuges included in this modality are: Vega de Ario, Vegarredonda and Vegaba\u00f1o.<\/li><li><strong>Entrance to the shelters<\/strong>You can access the refuges through Cangas de On\u00eds, Sajambre or Valde\u00f3n.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extrem Ring<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Massif<\/strong>In this mode, in addition to the Western Massif (Corni\u00f3n), the Central Massif (Urrieles) is covered.<\/li><li><strong>Distance:&nbsp;<\/strong>The total distance is 82 km long.<\/li><li><strong>Unevenness: &nbsp;<\/strong>The difference in altitude + 7,050 m.<\/li><li><strong>No. of stages:<\/strong>&nbsp;The modality consists of 7
