I've been alone for so long, I can't get used to their presence. They arrive when the snow still covers me. They know that the icy blanket, once perennial, will begin to give way at my feet in a few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sun, still trying to shake off the long winter doldrums, is trying to warm up a freezing day. The fog slowly begins to ease and before long tiny silhouettes become visible from my position: they are the first; many more will follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What brings them here? I don't know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They work well coordinated, like little ants. They set up their tents with determination. From time to time they cast furtive glances at my position. They know that no one has managed to reach me. They know that death will follow in their footsteps for weeks to come. They accept the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I'll wait for them here.
