He crept out of the room, carefully descended the wooden stairs and left the shelter behind him. He set off up the mountain in the middle of a cold, dark night. Shrouded in darkness, he reached the ridge of large boulders that would lead him to the top. He took a cereal bar from his rucksack and took a bite.
