We will first climb up to Rincón de Alano through a steep corridor that ends at the Rincón pass, and then crest up to Peña Forca. together with the Rincón de Alano and the Lenito peaks, form an impressive cirque of towers and limestone walls that jut out to the west of the Selva de Oza, and which form the finishing touch to the elongated Sierra de los Alanos.

The Peña Forca, called in many different ways: Forca de Alano, Achar de Forca or Penyaforca among other names, is presented as an elongated ridge of about 500 metres in length with 3 peaks of similar altitude. The central peak, where the geodesic vertex is located, is usually considered to be the summit of the mountain. However, on the IGN maps, the eastern peak, known here as Peña Forca, appears with a height of 2,391m, two metres higher than the central peak, known simply as Forca. The same occurs if we consult the IGEAR cartography. In this case, the eastern summit appears at 2392.06m and the summit apex at 2391.09m. Which of the two is higher is of no importance, as both summits, which are only 180 metres apart, are connected by a ridge without any difficulty.

On the other hand, in some publications, such as the article dedicated to Lenito and Peña Forca in issue 354 of the magazine desnivel, we find that the eastern peak is called Achar de Forca, while the highest peak is called Peña Forca. This is what we will call them from now on.

As for the Rincón de Alano (2,357m), the first peak we propose to climb, it is the last and highest pinnacle of the Alano barrier, which extends like a gigantic breakwater from the Ruzquia peak (2,074m). Few walls in the Pyrenees can compare with these limestone walls that seem to be taken from the Dolomites.

How to get there:

See Google Maps.

To get to the starting point of this excursion, the Oza bridgeWe will take as a reference point the town of Siresa, which we will reach following the A-176 from Puente la Reina de Jaca (26kms).

Once in Siresa, the last village in the Hecho valley, we continue straight on along a narrow road that leads to the Selva de Oza. At the end of the car park next to the Oza Bridge, a signpost indicates the GR11.1 variant to Zuriza via the Estribiella pass and the ascent to Peña Forca. The path is marked in red and white, and in this first stretch, it coincides with the approach path to the Estribiella ravine, one of the star ravines in the area. The climb is steady and quite steep, under a beech forest that prevents us from seeing the peaks, but which in exchange provides us with good shade on hot days. In a twist in the path (0h40min), the path finally manages to get out of the forest and we can see the Puntal de Lenito (2.285m) and the Lenito (2.339m).

The Puntal de Lenito and the Lenito overlook a small clearing at the end of the forest.

The forest ends shortly afterwards (0h50min) giving way to an area of meadows where our objective reveals itself just in front of us.
