Chronicle of another victory

-by Victor Medrano Aguado-

It seemed like a bad idea from the start, but just another one of many.

We missed the time, the fog rolled in, we lost the trail, no GPS, no mobile phone, not much awareness of the danger, it got dark when we reached the top, in one direction the refuge, in three other directions the cliff.

On the verge of setting up bivouac on the top of a bare mountain at 1500 metres, the sky opened up, and from the refuge the screams came back to us, at last.

In the distance, the mist gave way to flashing lanterns that marked the way, we groped our way forward with the goats' permission to move aside.

They shouted at us from afar that we were crazy, where the hell were we going out at that hour.

We didn't know them but we already loved them. We started sharing a sense of humour and ended up sharing everything we had, up there, one way or another, you stop feeling alone.
