Vilamaniscle to Port de la Selva

    ↔️ Distance: 21.2 km
    📈 Unevenness (+760), (-910) 📉
    🕒 Time: 5h45min (walking time non-stop)
⚠️ Difficulty: Attention to the heat. The descent to Mar Valley is steep.
💧 Water: We will find a source in the villages and in Sant Pere de Rodes.

📌 (0h00min; 0 kms) Vilamaniscle (152m). From the source💧 At the entrance to Vilamaniscle, the GR11 continues along Carrer de la Pujada del Castell, turns left, passes by the ruins of the castle and continues right along Carrer de Tramuntana until it reaches Carrer de la Serra. We will continue upwards until it becomes the path that leads us to…

📌 (0h25min; 1.6 km) Col de la Serra (258m). Shortly after the coronation, the trail splits into two; we will take the right trail, which we will follow for about 2 kilometers until we reach a path that descends sharply to the left, to the Romanesque hermitage of San Silvestre. The white and red markings coincide with other red-green and yellow markings.

📌 (1h05min; 4.4 kms) Sant Silvestre de Valleta (118m). At Sant Silvestre, the red and white markings of the GR11 disappear. We continue to the left, following the red-green and yellow markings that rise rapidly towards a track where we find the red and white markings again. We continue to the left, climbing up the track.

📌 (1h30min; 5.9 kms) Col de les Portes (228m). The Mediterranean Sea is close by. The track descends quickly towards Llança; as soon as we arrive, we pass under the railway line and turn left, parallel to a road that crosses at 200m. Head towards the tourist office that is in front.

📌 (2h15min; 9.2 kms) Llança (tourist office) (10m). The GR11 leaves Llança and continues along the back of the Tourism Office - next to a park with source💧– along Calle del Comte Jórre. Shortly afterwards, turn left onto Avenida Antoni Margarits i Sagrera, and continue until a roundabout where the path begins, which climbs without stopping to the…

📌 (3h10min; 12.2 kms) Coll del Perer (346m). Turn right and continue up until a large hill where the hard part of the ascent ends, where we join a wider path. We will follow it for 1.5 km until we reach the road that connects Vilajuïga and the Port de la Selva, at a junction that we will follow straight ahead.

📌 (4h05min; 15.3 kms) Sant Pere de Rodes (510m). Under the monastery wall there is a source💧.

The Benedictine Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes has a non-conventional Romanesque style for the time. The church dates back to the 10th century and the portal dates back to the 12th century, although there were previously other buildings, possibly Romanesque.

Continue up some stairs that go down to the left, next to the entrance of the monastery, and continue right under the walls of the south wall along a concrete path that descends to a parking lot. In the parking lot, to the right, a path goes down in a zig-zag through the steep slope and, in the last stretch, it runs along the bottom of the valley of the Rec dels Gatiens. Shortly before reaching La Selva de Mar, we pass by the Chapel of Sant Sebastià, of Romanesque origin; its appearance is rather that of a castle.

📌 (5h00min; 18.1 kms) La Selva de Mar (60m). Source💧. Go down Carrer de la Font and cross the Riera at the second bridge. Continue along Carrer de l’Hospital and turn left after 100m into a alley that descends to a promenade parallel to the Riera. At the end of the alley, there is a path that crosses the Riera and ascends between old agricultural walls. After 15 minutes, you reach the road that climbs to Sant Pere de Rodes, at a hairpin bend, where another path starts to descend to the right towards the road that connects La Selva de Mar with the Port de la Selva. We will continue along the road – it has a sidewalk and a bike lane – until it ends at the road to the coast, next to the Camping L’Erola. Continue right, along the Bahia del Port de la Selva, until you reach…
