Igloos, those cute little constructions that we relate to a world so far away...or not.

The reality is that since I was very young, I remember them as one of the first types of huts. Simple dome made of ice, with a tunnel I could hardly understand how they managed to stoop so low to get inside, let alone how they could feel any warmth inside that ice shell.

Every time it snowed, I looked anxiously out of my bedroom window into the yard, where I waited longingly for all that snow to form a pile big enough to build my own igloo. It never happened.

Years later, quite a few years later, a curious twist of fate led me to get my hands on the extract from a dictionary inuitThe language of the Eskimos, and the interest in their culture and, of course, in their way of building igloos, will be rekindled. Rest assured, this is not intended to be a construction class, hahaha.

The smile it jumped out at me when I saw behind the hashtag #travessiapirenaica (on instragram) the photo of the construction of one of these domes of the Pole, in the same Pyrenees. What an illusion.

The truth is that this type of construction, although more rudimentary in design, can save us from a bad situation. night amidst blizzards. These are quicker to build and have a simpler style as can be seen in the following video.

However, when one thought of that igloo on the terrace, one was thinking of something else; a space where, perhaps, I could take my shoes off on a rug while coffee was being made. A refugeA place made with all the love in the world because that would be the special place to go to think and daydream. The one in the first photo, Sonia Labrador's, seems more in keeping with the idea and I still smile when I imagine it right here in the Pyrenees.

In case you are up for the aventura, I leave you with this other video, a mythical one if ever there was one, in which you can see how easy it seems to be for these Eskimos build their igloo.
