The summit and the lake
-by Angel Vela Trujillo
The crystalline waters of the lake reflected the white clouds that played harmoniously, sitting on a rock he contemplated the spectacle with rapt attention, he thought how many people had seen that marvel, he took out his camera, framed and shot, eager to capture that instant that his retina had recorded inside him, he put the camera away and continued his ascent to the summit, up there the spectacle was even more impressive, peaks and more peaks, lakes and more lakes, he counted more than fifty, he had never seen anything like it, it was without doubt the most beautiful summit he had ever seen.
Years later, without knowing it, she was sitting on the same rock as him, looking out over the lake, remembering his enthusiastic words explaining the hike. She followed the zigzagging path to the top, shouted euphorically when she reached it, then turned 360o to look at that wonderful panorama of nature, and thought how much she would have liked to climb with him, maybe next time.
