Weekend
-by Llorenç Pinsach Elías-.
One step after another, slowly. An infinite slope rises before me. My heart is pounding, my breath is coming in gasps. One step after another, what am I doing here? I see the peak, still far away. I rest again. There's not much left. My hands help me to progress. That's it, at last.
I am at the top. There is no one there. The silence frightens me. A sudden emotion comes over me and I cry. My breathing calms down, my heart recovers its usual rhythm. The sun begins to shine on the mountain peaks around me; the deep, narrow valleys will have to wait. The electric blue sky stretches out without limits.
I start to hear a strange and familiar sound. It's getting closer and closer. I am alone. I finally recognise it. It's 6 o'clock in the morning, time to get up. It's getting closer to the weekend.
Fastpacking is not about going faster. It's about going lighter.
If you come from classic trekking, this is the next step: learning to move with less weight,
more fluid and enjoying every kilometre more.
