Ibón de Plan or Basa de la Mora
Possibly one of the best routes you can't miss is the route of the Ibón de Plan, also known as Basa de la MoraIt is one of the most beautiful in the whole of the Pyrenees mountain range. It is in a really attractive landscape, which alternates large mountains with beautiful forests, mostly of black pine, as well as extensive meadows where light green predominates.
Considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Pyrenees, the Ibón de PlanThis glacial lake, located in the north of the province of Huesca, is a magical and enchanting place. There is a beautiful story about the apparition of a young Muslim girl who every 24th June - Saint John's Day - performs a sensual dance on the surface of the water.
The myth has attracted the attention of many curious onlookers, fascinated by the stunning beauty of the natural treasure; they ask the locals about the story of this young woman, whose ghost appears - so the legend goes - every year since she was lost in the Pyrenean peaks while escaping from the fighting between Christians and Moors.
But for the more sceptical, those who are looking for adventure and to enjoy a dream place for its natural beauty alone, the Ibón de Plan offers a more earthly vision: the peaks, the black pine forest and the snow surrounding the lake are impressive, especially its reflection in the water at an altitude of 1,910 metres.
The lake not only allows you to recharge your batteries -with your own observation-, but also to enjoy with family or friends in its surroundings, so we invite you to visit the Ibón de Plan -so called because of its proximity to the town of Plan-.
It is easy to get there and you can take a tour from different places:
Route to Ibón de Plan from Plan
One of them is the one that begins in the very village of Plan -we will take the village swimming pool as a starting point-, for a route (one way) of a duration of Approximately 4 hours, which means 13.5 kilometres and an accumulated difference in altitude of 980m.
After taking the path to the Plan d`Escún reservoir we turn onto a path that will take us directly to the lake in question. After crossing the forest and coming across the Ibón ravine on the way, we reach a path, the GR15, to continue towards Armeña and Barbaruen.
Further on, you will reach the glacial valley full of crags with heights of over 2,000 metres, and then you will see the magnificent Ibón de Plan.
You can walk around the lake and enjoy the different perspectives that will leave you open-mouthed.
Route to Ibón del Plan from Lavasar refuge
From the village of Saravillo, an 11.6 km track leads us to the Lavastar refuge, which is located at an altitude of about 1930 metres - access by vehicle is complicated, as the closer you get to the refuge, the more potholes there are in the road. A An hour later you will be at the Lavastar hut.
From the Lavastar refuge, the route continues on foot and in about 3 kilometres and 30 minutes you reach the Ibón de Plan.
You enter a path surrounded by a forest of black pine and fir trees that leads down to the valley. Here we take a break and suggest you do not lose sight of the spectacle before your eyes.
Later you reach the place where there was a lake that disappeared many years ago due to sedimentation, giving way to the mountains that will continue to delight your senses.
With no more time to lose you continue until you reach the Ibón de Plan, at this point you will be at an altitude of 1910 metres.
