El Camino

Since 1211 Santiago de Compostela has been a place of pilgrimage and the Portuguese Route is the second busiest pilgrimage route. The mostly rural journey takes in four UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Castle of the Knights Templar in Tomar, Portugal's oldest university in Coimbra, and the ancient cities of Porto and Santiago, culminating in the magnificent cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

When to go?
