documentary 'Running Up for Air' Patagonia

This week, Patagonia presents an inspirational documentary that explores the creation of "Running Up for Air (RUFA)a global event of trail running who stands up for clean air. Initiated by veteran trail runner Jared Campbell in 2012, RUFA encourages runners to join together, run routes and raise funds for environmental causes.

The documentary offers an in-depth look at how a personal initiative transformed into a global movement, capturing the essence of today's environmental challenges and the importance of community action.

The Story Behind "Running Up for Air".

Jared Campbell, a trail running enthusiast, witnessed first-hand the effects of air pollution while training in the mountains around Salt Lake City. Campbell describes his experience by saying:

"Fifteen years ago, I was one of the few people who huddled in the mountains in winter, watching the air pollution," says Jared Campbell. "I decided to do something about it.

Thus RUFA was born, an event that not only challenges runners to push physical limits, but also raises awareness of the importance of clean air. Since its inception, RUFA has grown, spanning multiple countries and attracting thousands of participants.

Global Impact and Participation

On 1 June, RUFA returns to several destinations in Europe. Participants will be able to explore elevations both solo and in groups, with the support of organisations fighting air pollution. The event includes routes from trails and mountains to urban parks, providing a variety of options for runners of all levels.

Luke Nelson, Patagonia's trail running ambassador, highlights the importance of the event:

"Trying to put a value on air is impossible. As a human being, it is the engine of life force," says Luke Nelson. "Why do we care about air? Because we care about people.

This year, RUFA is expected to be bigger than ever, with more local events and increased global participation. Runners and environmental enthusiasts can join this cause and contribute to a cleaner future.
