Anatomy of a fall
-by Raúl Bergua
It was a mere stumble, the eternal premonition of a fall foretold. The voices around me circled in my head like vultures. In the end they were going to be right. It pissed me off more to hear them than to be falling.
The descent was dizzying and uncontrolled but somehow romantic as well as stupid. An absent-mindedness had been the flower of my misfortune. At first I thought of screaming, then I decided to expand my senses and project them into the ephemeral space-time that is the void. I went through the tunnel of good memories while I watched the ground approaching me. For a tenth of a second I wondered who would find me, then I decided to just smile and cry. I thought it was going to be cruel, but at the last moment I watched the sun fall over the rocks and the forest. I smiled a farewell smile. It had been worth it.
