Fear kills
-by Ignacio Corradini-
It was 4:30 in the morning. He crept out of the room, carefully descended the wooden stairs and left the shelter behind him. He set off up the mountain in the middle of a cold, dark night. Shrouded in darkness, he reached the ridge of large boulders that would lead him to the top. He took a cereal bar from his rucksack and took a bite. He looked back, and his forehead lit up the incandescent eyes of a wild animal, startled he recoiled abruptly, slamming his heel against a stone... during the fall to the western slope not a whimper escaped him, all was silence, until seconds later the thud of his body against the rocks echoed through the valley... later, the little genet tore what was left of the cereal bar from his numb hand and was lost in the blackness...
