One step further
-by Rosa Domenech Vegas
I can't breathe, my movements slow down; my heart is racing and my head is exploding; every step is a miracle and the summit an impossibility.
I try to eat and drink without desire, with blurred vision, in the middle of the night and only with the light of the headlamp where every glance into the distance is a monstrous image with hallucinations included; with the fear that at the moment of culmination I will not be able to enjoy myself.
I cry, I stop, it hurts, I get dizzy, I feel nauseous, but I think of everything behind me and I get back up.
At last I catch sight of it and wait even longer with my smile uncrossed, that longed-for summit.
