    Evening of 11 August 2023

    -by Maite Undiano Leorza-

In the heart of Espot, the mountains still awoke whispers and aromas of the Pyrenees. Stocked up on almonds and cereal bars, we continued our journey. Further down, we plunged into the Escrita river, a sudden refreshment before ascending to Estaís, a village at an altitude of 1395 metres.

The landscape won us over: vast meadows embraced by stone walls, a green tapestry entrenched behind Els Encantats and the Espot ski slopes, curiously shaped in a "W". With the Guingueta reservoir shimmering in the distance, the path left behind, turning off along a well-worn road towards the beautiful village of Jou, with its two fountains.

A new path marked a steep descent to La Guingueta d'Aneu, where, in the absence of shelter, a hotel was an improvised refuge. The Pyrenees and the echo of our footprints resounded in our memory, once again woven with wild botany.
