The third edition of the Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival gets under way

The new edition of the Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival starts with the confirmation of the official dates of its short film competition, the presentation of the poster and the opening of the registration process. Huesca will once again host this mountain, adventure and nature film festival between the 19th and 24th of February. After its official presentation in the capital of Huesca, the provincial tour will be spread throughout the whole of Alto Aragon. The official image for this 2024 is a photograph of the Paso Superior in the Argentinian Patagonia taken by the Aragonese mountain film specialist Jesús Bosque. With more than 6,000 euros in prizes, the competition opens its registration process until 12 November; the short films that want to aspire to enter the competitive selection must complete the process for free through the platform Festhome. After the success of call and public, the festival faces a new exciting edition where the team is already working to present a first class international programme" declares David Asensio, its director.
The Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival confirms the dates and rules of its next competitive edition. The mountain, adventure and nature film short film competition will take place in Huesca from 19 to 24 February. Along with the dates, the organisation has confirmed the rules and has opened the registration process for works less than 30 minutes long. fiction, documentary and animation whose theme revolves around the central philosophy of the event. A period that will run until 12 November and will have the Festhome platform as its central axis.
The event will consist of free sessions for the public and a qualified jury will be in charge of deciding the final awards. 6.000 euros. A total of seven awards: Best Short Film Award (3,000 euros), Best Adventure and Sports Short Film Award (1,500 euros), Best Culture and Nature Short Film Award (1,500 euros) and the Best Animation Short Film, Best Screenplay, Audience Award and Best Ibero-American Short Film Awards given by the founding venues. The very philosophy of the event includes the support and development of filmmakers, which is why the awards will go to the directors of the works, with the exception of the Best Screenplay, which will be awarded to the screenwriter or screenwriters.
The works that aspire to enter the official selection must be made after 1 January 2021 and those of a touristic or advertising nature will be excluded. In addition, they must be submitted with subtitles in English or Spanish if their original language is any other than the aforementioned. From all of them, the competition section will be selected, which could also form part of the national tour, a special session which, after its presentation in the capital of Aragon, will pass through the rest of the provincial and national venues which will announce their dates in the near future.
The film event managed to gather more than 3,400 people in its last edition, where the short film Into The Ice: An Expedition To The End Of The World by Andrew Opila was consecrated as the best production. An exhibition, sports competitions, special screenings, conferences and tributes, such as the one paid to the Civil Guard Mountain Rescue and Intervention Groups (GREIM) of the province of Huesca and the Civil Guard Helicopter Service based in Huesca (U.H.E.L.-41), completed the programme. "The festival is facing an exciting edition where the team is already working to present a first class international programme", says David Asensio, director of the PMFF.

The Festival has also unveiled what will be its official image, a photograph taken by the filmmaker and mountain film specialist Jesús Bosque. The spectacular snapshot shows the Paso Superior, a stretch of obligatory transit to a multitude of peaks and needles; this is the last camp used by mountaineers before attempting Cerro Fitz Roy on the east face in Argentinean Patagonia. "This is where the joys and defeats of those who return cross with the illusions of those who have just reached it," explains Bosque.
The Pirineos Mountain Film Festival is organised by the Fundación Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca with the support of the Diputación Provincial de Huesca, Ayuntamiento de Huesca, Gobierno de Aragón, TuHuesca, Aramón, Fundación Deporte Joven del Consejo Superior de Deportes, Instituto Aragonés de la Mujer and Peña Guara as organiser of the sports activities in Huesca.
