The Way of St. James Seventh Stage

Short stage that will help us to regain strength for the following days, and that will allow us to enjoy a bit of the wonderful city of León.

This stage is monotonous and not very pretty, perhaps the best, as we have already mentioned, awaits us at the end, when we reach León and enjoy the city.

We leave Sahagun along a path surrounded by poplars and soon we take a path parallel to the road that leads us to a fork, which for bicycles it is advisable to continue straight on and take the Royal French Route, if we don't want to end up punishing our buttocks even more on a cobbled road that for cyclists turns into a nightmare.

This path is nothing more than a monotonous route along the road that will accompany us for the next 32 kilometres. The first village we come across is Bercianos del Real Camino (km 23) and then El Burgo Ranero (km 30.6), this landscape will not leave us until we leave the next town we pass through, Reliegos.

After 6 km and finally leaving the track we took at the beginning of the stage, passing over a viaduct and passing through irrigated areas, we reach the town of Mansilla de las Mulas (km 39).

We pass the villages of Villamoros de Mansilla, Puente Villarente and after a slight ascent Arcahueja (km 49.5). After this village, the section becomes steeper with several slides.

From here you can already sense the city of León, with much more traffic and all that the access to a city entails.

We arrive in León, a city poorly signposted for pilgrims, but we soon realise that it is one of the special points on this route.

All that remains is to rest and enjoy what this city has to offer.
