The spring of edelweiss

-by Rosa María Gargallo Bielsa.-

It is in July when I look for you and go to meet you, to see you, to contemplate you and, why not, to take some photos. And it is in September when I say goodbye to you.

You tend to make it difficult for me, as you like to live among rocks, crevices and under limestone slopes. I never saw you below 1,500m and rarely found you above 3,000m.

Sometimes I make sure we meet and I go to the place where you are always there, with sublime views and difficult access, the Faja de las flores (flower belt) calls you and you are in the Ordesa/Monteperdido NP.

You live in groups to ensure your survival, and if in unity you are beautiful, in multitude you are precious.

In the centre, your yellow flowers, and what your petals look like, bracts really are; fleshy, starry, white, velvety?

Edelweiss, white nobility, you are a symbol of courage and bravery. Emblem protector of nature, mountains and mountaineers.
