Metamorphosis

-by Maite Pariente Aylagas-

When I opened my eyes I could only see a face that reminded me of a former student, but with a white coat, monitoring equipment and a wheelchair.

I couldn't understand anything, I tried to remember what I was doing there, but the only thing I could visualise in my mind was me on the mountain, in the middle of a freezing cold fog, trying to get down as quickly as possible.

When I decided to speak up and move, I felt like the cockroach in the
Kafka's "metamorphosis".

Then my ears were filled with a familiar, sweet voice that told me he was there to help me, just as I had once done for him, and added, suicide is not the solution to your problems.

I didn't believe any of his words, I didn't understand anything, I was a fighter and I would never have tried to end my life. The mountains were my passion and I still had a lot to live in them.
