Biadós Refuge - San Jaime Bridge

    ↔️ Distance: 20.3 km
    📈 Unevenness (+905),(-1362) 📉
    🕒 Time: 7h40min (travel time) non-stop)
⚠️ Difficulty: The Chistau port (2592m) can be snow-covered in early summer. The route is well signposted.
💧 Water: There will be no problems finding water; along the stage we will find several streams.

Suggestions: This stage can be shortened and you can spend the night in the Estós refuge (5 hours). There is also a variant (GR11.2) to this stage that circles the Posets massif from the south, via the Ángel Orús or Forcau refuge. This variant adds one day to the journey.

📌 (0h0min;0km) Refuge of Biadós/Viadós (1760m). The path descends a few meters to a small parking lot where the track from San Juan de Plan ends, from where you can reach it by car. We will continue along a wide road suitable for cars that crosses the farms of Biados, which were once used as granaries and stables. At the last farm, the road makes a left-hand bend and the path forks. Information panels indicate to the right the alternative route. GR11.2 Passing by the Ángel Orús refuge (add one day) and in front of it to the left, we continue towards the Estós refuge. The trail ascends the valley parallel to the Zinqueta river from Añes Cruces. In about 35 minutes we pass the Puyarueso refuge (somewhat precarious). Then the valley narrows. The trail ascends along the left slope, passing through a few stream💧, up to a kind of shoulder where the valley opens up again. On the left we see the cabin of Añes Cruces (in good condition) and below it, in a marshy meadow, another one in very poor condition.

📌 (1h30min; 3.2kms) Pleta de Añes Cruces (2080m). A place where several things converge Torrents💧. Here the GR11 splits off from the High Pyrenean Route (ARP/HRP) , Without marking, the trail continues towards the Port of Añes Cruces. The trail crosses the streams and ascends to the right, towards the East, the ravine of Chistau. The trail is clear. At the time this stage was completed, we found water💧 almost all the way up, at 2,500m.

📌 (3h00min; 6.5kms) Port of Chistau (2592). This will be the highest point of the stage; the views are magnificent; to the west lies Punta Ixabre (2,699m) and Bachimala (3,174m); on the other side appears the three-thousand-meter ridge that runs from the Picos de Clarabide (3,006m) to Perdiguero (3,222m); and in the background, the massif of Maladeta. The trail turns right after passing the col and descends along the right slope. In 40 or 45 minutes we change direction and the first streams💧 where we can get water. The trail descends without difficulty to the…

📌 (5h00min; 11.1kms) Refugio de Estos (1890m). The path continues down through meadows and pine forest until, after about 35 minutes, it leads to an open area where you cross the river💧.

There, hidden away is the Cabana del Turmo, which many of you will recognize from the mythical song ’20 de abril del 90’ by Celtas Cortos. Do you remember that night at the Cabana del Turmo, the laughter we all used to have together?… Apparently, the song is not inspired by a real story, but it must be the Cabana that they were referring to. More information.

We passed a fence and now continue on a track. It is advisable to take a path to the left shortly thereafter (trail), indicated by some signs as Gorgas de Calantes. This is a path that passes through several viewpoints over a kind of pots dug by the river💧 when it finds a jump. We leave the track again. In 25 minutes we reach the crossing of the ibones of Escarpinosa; 5 minutes later we pass a source💧 And in 10 more minutes, we arrive at the…

📌 (6h30min; 17.2kms) Cabaña de Santa Ana (1495m). In good condition. We continue descending. At the Aiguacari turn, the trail changes direction. Later, the small reservoir💧 of Estos is left to the right, and shortly thereafter, we reach the road between Benasque and the plains of Hospital, where this stage ends.

    📌 (7h15min; 20.1kms) New Bridge of San Jaime (1254).
