San Jaime Bridge - Cap de Llauset Refuge

    ↔️ Distance: 16.4 km
    📈 Unevenness (+1.516m), (-361m) 📉
    🕒 Time: 6h45min (travel time) non-stop)
⚠️ Difficulty: Between San Jaime Bridge and Coronas Bridge (10kms) the progress is rapid. Up to here the stage mostly runs on a track. Starting from the Ibones of Vallibierna we enter the terrain of the high mountains. The trail disappears, it is difficult to walk between the blocks and we can find snow in early summer at the Cuello de Vallibierna (2710m).
Suggestions: The free refuge of Coronas is a good place to end if you want to shorten the stage or if you are doing longer stages.

📌 (0h00min; 0kms) New San Jaime Bridge (1,254m). From here to Benasque there are 3 kilometers. Take the track that goes out on the left bank of the Esera river. The track runs parallel to the river until the Paso Nuevo Reservoir. At the tail of the reservoir, just before Plan de Senarta, there is the crossing where the alternative GR11.5 (front view), it separates from the main route (right).

📌 (0h40min; 2.8kms) Crossing of GR11.5 (1,400m). Continue right along the main route. In 5 minutes we pass a source💧. Just after that, there is a path to the right with a steep incline that allows you to circumvent a curve in the track.

📌 (2h05min; 6.8kms) Pleta del Quillón Refuge (1,805m). The trail continues for another 3 kilometers until the Coronas Bridge, where there is a fishermen's shelter. During the route there is the possibility of taking a break. water💧 On any of the streams that cross it. A bus travels along this path during the summer months, when access by car is not permitted.

📌 (3h00min; 9.9kms) Coronas Bridge and Refuge (1.980m). Small parking area and shelter of Pequeños Pescadors, also called Vallibierna, Riveretes or Coronas (in good condition). Following the GR11, we pass in 15 minutes the crossing to the ibones of Coronas (3h). The Pyrenean trail continues through the pine forest, climbing up the valley of Vallibierna.

📌 (4h05min; 9.9kms) Pleta de Llosás (2.206m). The trail crosses a lever over the ravine From Llosás. At this point, the black pine has almost disappeared, giving way to the high mountain pastures. Above these, the quarries and sharp crests of the massif of the Maladeta and Aneto. The views towards Aneto (3,404m), Tempestades (3,290m), Margalida (3,241m), Pico Russel (3,207m) or Vallibierna (3,067m) to the south are magnificent. The path leaves the forest behind and ascends alongside the ravine of Vallibierna.

📌 (4h45min; 13.0kms) Entrance – Ibón Bajo de Vallibierna (2,428m). We follow it on the left. At the end of the plateau we cross the Vallibierna ravine that descends from the high plateau. The path enters the valley on the right and advances along the left wall, in order to avoid, as far as possible, the uncomfortable blocks of rock.

📌 (5h20min; 14.1kms) High Ibón of Vallibierna (2,475m). We leave it to the left. From here on the slope gets steeper. As soon as we start, we pass a stream💧 which could be dry depending on the season.

📌 (6h00min; 15.0kms) Cuello de Vallibierna (2710m). We begin the descent -between blocks - with the refuge always visible, until we reach the bottom of the valley. Before crossing the river, the path splits. To the right, the GR18 descends to the town of Aneto passing through the LLauset dam. To the left, it continues to the Cap de Llauset Lake and, crossing the river💧, we reach the...

    📌 (6h45min; 16.4kms) Cap de Llauset Refuge (2426m).
