The great Pyrenean mountain range is bordered to the east by the enormous Mediterranean Sea and to the west by the majestic Cantabrian Sea.It therefore completely separates the peninsula from France.

The capricious and rare climatic conditions have managed to shape a place where the most biologically interesting flora and fauna in Europe coexist in harmony with nature, giving rise to a living nature. The continuous cold climate and heavy snowfalls have made the highlands an area with a personality of its own.

The combination of all these conditions meant that numerous groups of plants began to appear in the wooded areas that make up the mountain range, with the Euro-Siberian and Alpine species being very numerous, although some can also be found in the forest areas. endemisms. I may need to remind you that endemic species are so called because they can only be found in a small part of the world, and nowhere else.

Almost 4,500 species make up the flora of the Pyrenees of which some of them are 160 endemics. We could highlight a great many, but the most exotic ones such as aquilegia of the Pyrenees and crown of the king. Whenever you pass through a Pyrenean forest you will see many trees, but the most prominent ones are the beech and black pines.

The most renowned plant in the region is, without a doubt, the "snow flower".. This name comes from its natural habitat, as it grows in the high altitude meadows of almost all mountain ranges in Europe. Today, harvesting or collecting them is strictly forbidden due to their exploitation over the last two decades.

A curious fact about this flower is that Switzerland has adopted it as its national flower, as this country is particularly rich in natural beauty and endemic species. We must all do our bit to preserve the Pyrenees mountain range and its wonders.
