Aísa Gorge and Sombrero Peak

Excursion through the Aísa mountain rangeThe route, of medium difficulty and a little more than a thousand metres of vertical drop, to the peak of the Aísa Gorge (2,502 m) and the Sombrero peak (2,507 m), with the Aspe as a background witness. The hike takes about six and a half hours, including stops. The difference in altitude is 1,057 metres.

We left the car in the car park of La Cleta (to the north of the municipality of Aísa, at an altitude of 1,450 m). From there, we start by climbing a steep concrete slope and shortly afterwards we cross the d'Iguer ravine to As Planas de Rigüelo. Once there, turn left to climb up to the Pass of the Aísa Gorgeat an altitude of 2,325 metres. A route that involves climbing steep slopes and negotiating some snowfields -like the one in the photo-.

We will then crest, and turn a little to the right, to climb up the Croquette Channel (a stretch where you can enjoy breathtaking views and where you have to be careful, as it is easy for stones to come loose that could harm a colleague below), and continue climbing up to the Garganta de Aísa Peak (2.502 m).

From the Garganta de Aísa we will continue our journey towards the Sombrero peak (2.507 m). On the way you will be surprised by the dolina, a deep chasm that you will find on overcoming a pass. This is a thing of limestone terrain.

There is not much time left to reach the summit of Sombrero. Enjoy the magnificent views of Aspe, the Lecherín peak and the Mallos de Lecherines.

We will descend along the edge of Pico Lecherín to As Planas de Rigüelo and from there we will take the same path as on the way up, where it is not unusual to come across herds of sheep.
