Film Anwar (Full of Light) with Alex Txikon: mountaineering, solidarity and renewable energy
Alex Txikon's winter ascent of Manaslu in Nepal will be the seed of a story that will bring sustainable light to Newton in Sierra Leone and to a very special school in Diamer, Pakistan. Alpinism, solidarity and renewable energy are the key to this story.
The film begins with the ascent of Manaslu (Nepal), which will become the first to use solar panels as the only source of energy. This will give rise, with the help of the EKI Foundation, to a solidarity adventure that will bring light to a school in Diamer (Pakistan).
Shot in Nepal, Sierra Leone and Pakistan, ANWAR (Full of light) immerses us in Txikon's winter expedition to Manaslu (Nepal). It is the first non-polluting ascent, powered by solar panels. With this sustainable system, which reduces the energy footprint in accordance with the Paris Agreements, he begins a work of solidarity with the EKI Foundation. Alex is going to learn about the work developed by the Foundation in Sierra Leone, where they provide solar energy systems that allow energy autonomy in schools and hospitals. Txikon proposes to replicate this idea in a very special school in the Diamer Valley, in Pakistan, the Günter Mountain School, uniting two different but at the same time equal cultures.
In the words of the protagonist, "This is a project born of good work in which I want to highlight the difficulty of filming in the midst of a pandemic, the importance of humanitarian values and the belief that it will be able to make viewers empathise and reflect on the difference in opportunities".
For her part, the director describes the film as "A story that makes us travel, that makes us think, that moves us. It is a journey through intertwined paths, schools that are twinned, friends who stay along the way, cultural exchange, people who decide to leave their homes because they think that something can change and that another world is possible".
Written and directed by Rosa García Loire (executive producer of the documentary film El Drogas) and produced by 601 Producciones Audiovisuales, S.L. (Ockham's Razor, Ainarak), ANWAR (Full of light)The 80-minute film features cinematography by Ignacio Maquirriain and Raúl de la Fuente (Goya Awards for Best Documentary Short for Minerite in 2014, and for Best Animated Feature Film for One more day alive in 2019). Miguel Hualde is the sound designer. The music and graphic design are by Audionetwork and Welldone, respectively. The editing is by Natxo Leuza (director and producer of El Drogas). Ignacio Galíndez is in charge of production management, and Juan San Martín is in charge of executive production. The film is supported by the EKI Foundation.
