The Blue Mountains in Jamaica
The Blue Mountains are the longest mountain range in the Caribbean, great mountains with a maximum altitude of 2256 m. One of the world's finest coffees, the famous Blue Mountain Coffee, is grown on its slopes. The slopes are covered with dense tropical forest.
This extraordinary natural territory has been Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park since 1993. At the foot of the park is Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. The National Park extends over 78,100 hectares. This National Park contains a multitude of rare bird specimens and is home to most of the butterflies that inhabit America. There are countless species of fauna which dye the park green. Up to 500 species of flowers have been recorded in Blue Mountain National Park.
The park is accessible via the B1 road, which leads from Kingston to Buff Bay in the north. There is a botanical research centre at an altitude of 1500 metres called Cinchona Botanical Gardens, which was founded in 1886. This botanical centre covers 4 hectares. Access is difficult.
If we want to visit a natural park in a simpler way we can do it in Hollywell Forest Park, which is located a few kilometres from Newcastle. Hollywell Forest Park is 120 hectares in size. The Blue MountainsThis park is very beautiful and we can enjoy the nature of the Caribbean in all its splendour, in the park we will find a multitude of trees and lush vegetation in the misty valleys. In this place we can find extensions of cultivation of coffee with denomination of origin Blue Mountain. The Blue Mountain coffee is highly valued, especially in Europe, and is considered one of the best coffees in the world. The designation of Blue Mountain Coffee can only be granted to coffee grown at an altitude of more than 1525 metres.
In the area we can visit some factories dedicated to the cultivation of coffee as well as the production of another national product of Jamaica, Rum. To learn more about Blue Mountain coffee I recommend a visit to the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory, where we will be treated to a cup of this wonderful coffee, and then we can go to World's End Liqueur Factory, where they will reveal the secrets of Jamaican Rum.

The attractive natural environment of the Blue Mountains offers a multitude of excursions and walks along beautiful trails. There are more than 30 excursions that can be made in the area, among narrow paths and surrounded by lush nature. Among all the excursions we highlight the one from the village of Mavis Bank to Blue Mountain Peak, with a route of 11 kilometres.
