A excursion through the Añisclo Canyon will put us right in the middle of one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park. It is a a deep geographic feature with a large number of waterfalls and a particular flora..

This formation and geographical feature, the Añisclo Canyon, can be visited by the whole family, as its route is easy to access and the difficulty of reaching it is very low.

It has a deep gorge generated firstly by glacial erosion and later by fluvial erosion by the river Bellós. With a north-south orientation, its length is approximately 25 kilometres, its minimum altitude is 700 metres at Fuente de los Baños and its maximum altitude is 3,022 metres at Punta de las Olas.

The glacial erosion -and later fluvial erosion- to which we have referred has created vertical walls from which we can find an endless number of waterfalls and slides, such as the one at Fuenblanca.

It is, in short, an unmissable sight for tourists. In addition, due to its humidity and altitude, the Añisclo Canyon has a beautiful and lush forest that is excellently preserved.

Once there, be sure to visit the famous hermitage, where you can observe the vegetation; it also invites you to discover the beech forests and other plants that form part of the fauna and vegetation of this natural setting.

How to get there 

To get there, you must take the road that leads to Bielsa and then take the crossroads that will take us to EscalonaIt is important to know that as you will be bordering the Añisclo Canyon, you will be able to stop at the viewpoints to enjoy the view.

The tour actually starts at the Parking of the Añisclo CanyonYou will have to leave your car there to continue the journey on foot, which will take at least three hours, depending on the pace of the people.

If you are in AínsaYou will have to drive 10 kilometres north until you reach Escalona, and then enter the Añisclo Canyon along a narrow road next to the river Bellós.

Excursions in the Añisclo Canyon

The itinerary tourists from this locality is a tour of the Casco de Aínsaplus a visit to two other stops: the Cinco river and the Serrata de Aínsa viewpoint.. The route is not difficult and can take up to half an hour.

On the other hand, there is a second itinerary from the Añisclo Valley which, according to the experts, is not very visited, as it requires time and effort due to its long excursion. The route is linear and takes 5 hours to Fuen Blanca.

The drop-off point is San Úrbez. You will need to walk for about two hours before you reach the Riparetasmall clearing in the large forest surrounding it where the river Pardina ravine. After more than five hours of walking along beautiful trails you can finally glimpse Fon BlancaA place of worship for lovers of slides and waterfalls.

Once here, don't forget to stop to admire the surrounding nature and its characteristic flora, called the "Selva Plana" (Flat Forest) and that this is due to the particular climatic conditions of this area.

If you think you still have time to spare, you can spend it on getting to know the culture better by visiting, for example, the Hermitage of San ÚrbezIt dates back to the 8th century and has a very particular structure of a sanctuary cave. It resembles a small artificial shelter in the mountain.

The Añisclo Canyon has all the qualities that make it a place that really deserves to be visited, apart from, of course, being adjacent to the Añisclo National Park. Ordesa and Monte Perdido.
