You may well have dreamt of living in a huge castle, and why should we kid ourselves, this fantasy may never come true. However, you can always go to the Loarre Castlea beautiful castle of the Romanesque period which is located 35 kilometres from the the capital of HuescaThe hotel has a sublime location overlooking the extensive and beautiful Sierra de Loarre. Considering where it is located, it has perfect views over the Hoya de Huesca and all agricultural land in the surrounding regions.

This building sits on a small rocky mound, where limestone is the predominant material used to support the structural base of the castle. These very particular logistics made it particularly resistant at the time, as it was not possible to access it through a tunnel. It is interesting to know that it is also defended by a large wall.

It was built a thousand years ago by the then King Sancho III. Its purpose was supposed to be the organisation of offensives against the most emblematic Muslim square in the region, Bolea, which was in sight. It underwent several stages of improvement where it expanded. We can see this on the visit, as the state of conservation of the whole building is very good. This is what has earned it the title of "Europe's best preserved Romanesque fortress"..

A century after its creation, in the 12th century, the borders expanded and it lost what was to be its main purpose. However, three centuries passed before, in the 15th century, the people who inhabited the base of this immense castle reused its materials and moved to a nearby village, now known as Loarre.

Every day, this iconic castle attracts the attention of thousands of visitors from all over the world, as it was even the setting for the film ".The Kingdom of Heaven"directed by Ridley Scott.
