Caves and Cenotes in Yucatan

In the Yucatan area there are many Cenotes, spring water deposits generally with some depth. If you are in the Yucatan area it is highly recommended to visit some of the cenotes and enjoy a swim or a visit to places full of magic and enchantment.

Here we will describe some of them: Cenote Kantun-chi, Cenote Dos Ojos, Gran cenote, Cenote Dzitnup, Cenote Balankache, Calcehtok, Cenote Sagrado, Cenote Loltún and Cenote Xlacah.

All these cenotes are distributed in the Yucatan area from the east of the Playa del Carmen area to the Maxacarnu cenote.

Xlacah Dzibilchaltún Cenote

This cenote is located near Mérida, this cenote supplied water to the municipality of Dzibilchaltún, and is a very popular place to go for a walk, it has a considerable depth.

Calcehtok

These are little known caves near the Mayan ruins of Oxkintok, inside there are large trees and a multitude of birds, the grandeur of this cave is spectacular, it is a place to see it.

Sacred Cenote, Chichén Itzá

It is a gigantic cenote where it is said that in ancient times the Mayas celebrated rituals in its interior, it is impressive and very spectacular.

Balankanché Cave

It is a very large network of caves, it is part of the network of caves that covers the subsoil of Yucatan, in this case the cave is very large and leaves no one indifferent, it is one of the sacred places of the Mayas. It is located near Chichen Itza.

Dzitnup Cenote

Of all the cenotes where you can swim, this is the largest of them all, with its impressive size and the colour of its waters.

Samula Cenote

This cenote is very close to Dzitnup and after a narrow passage you reach a large salt lake where the transparent water and a huge tree root presides over the cenote. This tree was important for the Mayas because of the magical powers they attributed to it.

Great Cenote

It is very quiet for swimming and snorkelling and is located on the road between Tulum and Coba.

Dos Ojos Cenote

This Cenote extends along 60 km through various caverns and submerged caves and is considered the longest in the world. Its name is due to the peculiar effect that light produces when it enters through some holes in the main Cenote.

Kantun-Chi Cenote

This is a very nice place to go swimming and it is very close to Playa del Carmen from where we can visit it and enjoy a nice and magical swim.
Without a doubt, the spectacular baths in the cenotes make our stay in Yucatan even more interesting, these beautiful and refreshing places are unforgettable for all those who visit them. It is not in vain that they impressed and captivated the ancient Mayas who celebrated very important rituals and ceremonies inside them.
