Excursion to the Paco Fountain in Villanúa

A simple excursion, suitable for all kinds of people. It is a quiet walk, slightly uphill (with a gradient of 420 metres), up to the Paco Fountain in VillanúaThe journey takes about three hours each way, including stops.

We start the tour next to the tourist officeWe are only 300 metres from the Cueva de las Güixas. We start walking towards the east, behind the hostel, and we take the track going up to La Espata and La Trapa. We continue along the track until we come to the clearly signposted turn-off indicating the route to the Fuente del Paco - the word 'paco', in Aragonese, means 'shady area', like the one where the fountain and the refuge of the same name are located.

The path runs along a shady path through a beautiful forest of firs and pines. After the first twenty minutes of walking, the ascent becomes less steep and there are stretches that are practically flat. You can take the opportunity to stop in one of the forest clearings and enjoy the views: the Mallos de Lecherín, Lecherín peak, Lecherines peak and Tortiellas peak.

Shortly after, you will have arrived at your destination: the Paco Fountain. There you can rest by the fountain and have a drink at the picnic area.

You can do the reverse route to return to Villanúa. Or make a circular route taking the track that goes from the Fuente del Paco towards the Letranz Dolmen and La Trapa and, once you reach the dolmen -one of the three megalithic remains in Villanúa, which also include the dolmen of Las Güixas and Diezcapanas-, take the track that goes down from La Trapa to Villanúa -the stretch of track closest to the town is asphalted-. On the way down you can enjoy this unbeatable view of Villanúa.

For hikers who want to climb a little higher, we propose a longer route: from the Fuente del Paco you can continue eastwards to the Espata refuge (1,690 m), at the foot of the peak. Collarada (2,886 m); and from there head northeast and always at the foot of Collarada, up to the Refuge of La Trapa (1,750 m) from where we take the path down to the Letranz Dolmen to continue to Villanúa.
