The Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival confirms its new edition in Huesca from 17 to 22 February. The event with the best mountain, adventure and nature films comes with several important novelties, among them one in its list of winners that distributes more than 6,000 euros: the creation of a prize for the best short film shot in the Pyrenees. It also presents a spectacular photograph of the southwest spire of Abadías and the Ibón de Cregüeña (Benasque) as the official poster for 2025 and opens the registration process, making it even easier to access with two platforms: Festhome and Film Freeway; this period will remain active until 17 November. The artistic and selection team is officially kicking off the programme, where the official section will be the star, together with the "Tour 2025", which confirms its passage through Barbastro, Boltaña, Benasque and Tarbes, venues that are actively participating in the event. After the tour of the Alto Aragón, screenings will begin in other locations both nationally and internationally. "In a very short time, the festival has achieved very solid roots in the territory with the affection of the public, strong institutional backing and last year it made the international leap. All this makes us look with optimism, ambition and responsibility towards 2025," says David Asensio, the festival's director.

The new edition of the Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival will take place from 17 to 22 February in Huesca. The mountain, adventure and nature film festival confirms its dates and announces important new features. The first of these comes with the extension of the prize list, which will be made up of eight awards instead of seven. In addition to the existing awards: Best Short Film Award (3,000 euros), Best Adventure and Sports Short Film Award (1,500 euros), Best Culture and Nature Short Film Award (1,500 euros), Best Animation Short Film Award, Best Screenplay Award, Audience Award and Best Ibero-American Short Film Award, the Best Short Film Shot in the Pyrenees Award has been added. "A way of bringing together the communities twinned by this mountain range that gives us our name: the Basque Country, Navarre, Aragon, Catalonia and France," explains David Asensio, director of the event.

The total amount of awards is 6,000 euros and will be decided by a qualified jury. The films competing for these awards can be seen free of charge at the daily screenings scheduled at the Teatro Olimpia. Artistic and financial support for the filmmakers is also maintained, and therefore they themselves will be the final recipients of the amount allocated to each award; in the case of the Best Screenplay, the amount will be awarded to the screenwriter or screenwriters.

After passing through the capital of Alto Aragon, the "Tour 2025" will be launched, which will be made up of a group of the works in the competition (they do not have to coincide with the winners, but neither does it exclude them from being awarded prizes) which will begin its circuit through other venues such as Barbastro, Boltaña, Benasque or Tarbes; subsequently they will be seen in cities and towns all over Spain and beyond the borders of Spain.

ABADÍAS AND CREGÜEÑA, PROTAGONISTS OF THE POSTER AND HIGHLIGHT OF THE POSTER

As is now a tradition, the PMFF has an official poster showing some of the treasures of the mountains of the world. This year, 2024, it is a photograph of the southwest spire of Abadías, in the Cregüeña area (Benasque). The snapshot signed by Juan R. Bielsa, J.C. Smolinos and Club Nabaín is a faithful reflection of the spirit of the contest.

The official image will be the backbone of this year's communication and will be reflected in posters, websites and other formats to give visual cohesion to the artistic proposal.

REGISTRATION OPEN UNTIL 17 NOVEMBER

The third of the novelties comes from the short film registration period, as access to it has been expanded with the incorporation of a new channel. Works wishing to participate in this year's event will have two platforms to complete the process (before 17 November): Festhome and Film Freeway. In addition, residents in geographic areas in conflict or with on-line payment restrictions will be able to request their participation by mail: peliculas@pirineosmff.com. "We want to reach everyone and eliminate any kind of barrier or difficulty that the authors of the works may encounter in exhibiting their proposals," says Asensio.

The artistic team thus begins the screening of works to complete a programme on a par with previous years, when awards have been given to short films such as the Spain-USA co-production. Into The Ice: An Expedition To The End Of The World by Andrew Opila or the French The Draconians of Maxime Moulin. "The festival has achieved in a very short time a very solid roots in the territory with the affection of the public, a strong institutional backing and last year it made the international leap. All this makes us look with optimism, ambition and responsibility towards 2025," declares Asensio.

The candidate works must be less than 30 minutes long and fiction, documentary and animation productions whose subject matter revolves around the central themes of the event may be accepted, excluding productions of an advertising and/or tourist nature.

Important technical details to be taken into account in this phase include the production date (after 1 January 2022), as well as the need to have English or Spanish subtitles if the original language is any other than those mentioned above, which is necessary so that the members of the pre-selection team can evaluate each and every one of the proposals received in a fair and equal manner. The complete rules can be consulted on the official website: www.pirineosmff.com.
