Books of the Pyrenees
There are books for walking, cycling, climbing the three-thousanders, learning about the local flora and fauna or simply enjoying stunning Pyrenean photos. Books about the Pyrenees flood the shelves of bookshops and are of great help to the traveller. The list could be endless, so we are going to talk about some of the most successful ones.
Pyrenees, guide to the 3,000 m' (Ed. Sua). Written by Luis Alejos, this complete guide takes us through the 212 three-thousand-metre peaks of the Pyrenees, with more than 400 itineraries and information on the existing refuges and huts.
Walking the Pyrenean three-thousanders' (Ed. Barrabés). The book includes 90 itineraries through the highest peaks of the mountain range, with Aneto at the top (3,404 m), written by David Atela.
Todos los ibones del Pirineo aragonés' (All the lakes in the Aragonese Pyrenees) (Editorial Pirineo). A complete description of the more than two hundred high mountain lakes in this Pyrenean strip, organised by basins. Book written by Javier Cabrero and accompanied by maps and photographs.
La gran travesía de los Pirineos en BTT' (Ed. Prames). Miguel Ángel Acín and Fernando Lampre explain to the reader the details of the great trans-Pyrenean route by bicycle, from the Mediterranean to the Bay of Biscay.
Excursions with children in the Aragonese Pyrenees' (Ed. Sua). Eduardo and Lukas Viñuales make 32 hiking proposals to discover the Pyrenean nature with the family.
Monte Perdido, Posets, Aneto. Travesía. The big three' (Ed. Sua). Gorka López describes his journey through the three highest Pyrenean peaks: Monte Perdido (3,355 m), Posets (3,375 m) and Aneto (3,404 m) during ten days. A journey of 185 kilometres in which he also climbs the Taillón peak (3,144 m), La Munia (3,133 m) and Bachimala (3,174 m), among other peaks.
Routes to discover the Pyrenees' (Ed.Travel Bug). Ibon Martín offers 40 simple excursions, ideal for the whole family, with their corresponding maps and practical information. He also provides historical and mythological details of the areas covered.
30 circular excursions through Altoaragón' (Ed. Prames). Santiago Agón and Juan Cruz Barranco propose a route through places different from the classic ones, through "other mountains, other places in the geography of Huesca". The excursions are organised by county and include technical data sheets, maps and graphics for each route.
Pyrenean villages with charm' (Ed. Sua). Juan Gavasa and Ainhoa Camino have chosen more than sixty Pyrenean municipalities, both Spanish and French, to show us their most special corners.
In the footsteps of Lucien Briet. Beauties of Alto Aragón' (Ed. Prames). Luis Acín Fanlo. The author has updated the work of Lucien Briet, writer, photographer, explorer and renowned Pyreneanist who, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, immortalised with his camera the peaks, valleys, corners, villages and landscapes of the Pyrenees. His striking photographs were essential in demonstrating the need to create a National Park and protect the landscape of Ordesa.
