Premonition

-by Matías Gisbert Vivó-

Since she was a little girl my niece has accompanied me on nature walks, this summer we ventured to climb Monte Perdido, it would be her first three thousand.

We were walking towards the refuge along the path, when we reached the pass of the pegs I remembered the bad night I had spent, with constant nightmares in which I always fell into the void, I don't know if the dinner was bad for me, or if I had a few tenths of a fever. I looked at my niece who was already in position to start climbing when I told her that we were going to continue along the path.

On the way back, when we passed through the peg pass, it was closed. We came across some mountaineers and they told us that the previous day two pegs had apparently failed and one of our companions had been badly injured. Seeing my niece with a smile on her lips for reaching the summit confirmed to me that intuition does exist.
