    Thank you Don Candido

    -by Luis Torres Urgell

Don Cándido, the school priest who organised the excursions to the Pyrenees, said one day in class that a lame man could not go with him to the mountains. And he said it looking at my friend, who had had polio as a child. My friend, a classmate, stood there staring blankly.

But I know what he was looking at. He was looking at the mountains of the Pyrenees that he had seen in some book, and he imagined himself crossing valleys and lakes to reach their peaks. And he wondered why he couldn't go with Don Cándido.

What was a disappointment became a goal. And he did not stop. He did not stop until after a few years, with his left leg weakened and his pronounced limp, he climbed Aneto, Besiberri and so many other peaks.

And every time he reached the top, he thought of Don Cándido and smilingly thanked him.

Don't miss any adventure in the Pyrenees!
