The Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival becomes a competitive event and presents the rules and image of its 2023 edition. The short film competition of the mountain, adventure and nature film festival confirms its dates, from 20 to 26 February in Huesca and then starts its provincial tour in Jaca, Barbastro, Boltaña and Benasque. All the venues of the film festival actively participate in the election of the jury, a group of professionals who will decide the prize money of 6,000 euros. Films wishing to take part can register free of charge before 18 November via the Festhome platform. In addition, the image that will govern all the communication of this cycle has been unveiled, a spectacular photograph by Lorenzo Ortas showing the Pico Telera in the Huesca Pyrenees.

The Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival announces its first competitive edition with the presentation of its rules and corporate image, at the same time as it opens the registration process for its official section. The competition will be held in Huesca from 20 to 26 February and then start a tour around the whole country. The event maintains its provincial character with Jaca, Barbastro, Boltaña, Benasque and the capital itself as the main venues and where the aforementioned travelling exhibition will begin; towns that form part of "Huesca: The Magic of Congresses" and that with this event shows the potential of this network made up of all the conference centres and conference centres in Alto Aragón.

The competition will be made up of short fiction, documentary and animation films whose theme revolves around mountains, adventure or nature. The registration process is free of charge through Festhome (except for the cost of the platform's own service) and will be open until 18 November. The approved rules contemplate the acceptance of works made after 1 January 2019 that do not exceed 30 minutes in length, excluding those of a touristic or advertising nature. Likewise, the films submitted must be subtitled in English or Spanish if their original language is any other than those mentioned above.

The competition will be divided into several free sessions for the public and will have a jury responsible for deciding the winning films. A group of personalities with a proven track record in mountain and filmmaking, who will be appointed by consensus by each of the venues, will be in charge of deciding the winners. awards worth a total of 6,000 euros. The list of winners will be made up of a total of seven awards: Best Short Film Award (3,000 euros), Best Adventure and Sports Short Film Award (1,500 euros), Best Culture and Nature Short Film Award (1,500 euros), Best Animation Short Film Award (trophy awarded by the town of Benasque), Best Screenplay Award (trophy awarded by the town of Jaca), Audience Award (trophy awarded by the town of Boltaña), and Best Ibero-American Short Film Award (trophy awarded by the town of Barbastro).

The organisation works with a special sensitivity for the inclusion of all types of disabled audiences and will therefore carry out subtitling processes in both Spanish and English for the official sessions, thus ensuring the enjoyment of the works by any deaf person.

The Pyrenees Mountain Film Festival will also feature a national tour which, after passing through all the venues in the province, will travel to other locations in Spain. The PMFF Tour will be made up of a selection of the participating works, an action that will mean the extension of the screenings and their visibility on a national level.

THE PYRENEES VISUAL AXIS OF THE EDITION

Along with the presentation of the rules and the opening of the registration process, the festival has made public the official image of this first competitive edition. The renowned mountaineer and vice-president of Peña Guara Lorenzo Ortas is the author of this photograph of Pico Telera (via Sonia) taken in winter. A snapshot that will govern all visual communication and shows a mixed rock and ice climb. "We were very tired after climbing all day and seeing the colours of the sunset reflected in the mountains around us was a comforting spectacle," Ortas said.

The Pirineos Mountain Film Festival is organised by the Fundación Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca with the support of the Diputación Provincial de Huesca, Ayuntamiento de Huesca, Gobierno de Aragón, TuHuesca, Aramón, Fundación Deporte Joven del Consejo Superior de Deportes, Instituto Aragonés de la Mujer and Peña Guara as organiser of the sports activities in Huesca.
