Renclusa Refuge - Cap de Llauset Refuge

    ↔️ Distance: 11.3 km
    📈 Unevenness (+1.117m), (-829m) 📉
    🕒 Time: 7h30min (walking time non-stop)
⚠️ Difficulty: High mountain stage. The upper part runs between large blocks and moving forward is very complicated. The Salenques pass usually has a crevasse that persists all year (must have crampons). In October 2017 this was not the case, but the small crevasse that still remained was pure ice. Another option, when the snow still persists in late summer, is to climb the rocks on the right side.
💧 Water: Apart from the ibones, there aren’t many other opportunities to get water. There is a stream on the climb past the Barrancs pass, and another one higher up that can be heard between the blocks. After the Salenques pass, on the climb to Cap de la Vall Lake, we find another stream.

📌 (0h00min; 0kms) La Renclusa refuge (2,140m). After the source We find a panel on the GR11.5 trail that marks the left, separating us from the route that ascends to Aneto.

📌 (0h20min; 0,6kms) Col de la Renclusa (2.282m). The path descends towards Plan d’Aiguallut, crossed by multiple streams that flow down from the right side of the valley and from the Barrancs and l’Escaleta valleys. Once down, if you don’t know it, we recommend you visit the Forau d’Aiguallut and the waterfall💧. To get there, you can reach it by crossing the river💧, or if not, follow the GR11 all the way to the end of the plan, until a series of footbridges.

The Forau d'Aigualluts It is a karst sinkhole where the waters of the river Ésera, which originate in the glaciers of Aneto and Maladeta, are filtered. The waters reappear 3.6 kilometers away, but incredibly not in this valley, but in that of Arán, on the Atlantic side, being the only waters of Aragon that do not end in the Mediterranean. See more.

📌 (0h55min; 2.3kms) End of Plan d'Aiguallut (2,036m). A sign points to the crossing that, to the left, backwards, leads to Forau d’Aiguallut and La Besurta, and upwards (South), to Collado de Salenques and the Refuge of Cap de Llauset. Ascend south through the Barrancs valley. The terrain begins to become more difficult due to the blocks. In this first part of the climb we are alongside a stream💧.

📌 (2h15min; 4.8kms) Colladeta de Barrancs (2.481m). To the left of the collet is the Turonet de Barrancs (2,508m) and behind it, the ibón de Barrancs. In the background we can see the Collado de Salenques, where to the right begins the famous Salenques crest.

The Salenques Ridge to Pico de Margalida (3,239m), and its continuation to Pico Tempestades (3,278m) and Aneto (3,404m), is surely the most well-known classic via in the entire Pyrenees. The difficulty is not excessive D(IV+), however, the length of the route (2.5kms of continuous difficulties and 750m of positive elevation gain) makes it a great undertaking for any Pyrenean climber.

The GR11.5 advances following the milestones through a chaos of boulders. Shortly after the pass you pass a stream💧. Higher up, hopefully, we can catch up. water💧 in an underground stream that can be heard flowing between the blocks, at an altitude of about 2,650m. The final part of the ascent to the col presents a snowfield that usually persists all year round (this was not the case in October 2017). To overcome it, it will be necessary to bring the appropriate climbing equipment such as an ice axe and crampons. Depending on conditions and experience, it can be avoided by climbing the rocks on the right.

📌 (4h05min; 6.3kms) Col of Salenques/Ixalenques (2.809m). The views are magnificent. The GR11.5 descends with a tendency to the right -among landslides- by a steep slope towards the Salenques valley. The descent ends at about 2,560m. After that it continues along the right slope, contouring the ridge that descends from Punta Russell Oriental (3,051m). Possibility of taking water in a small stream💧 shortly after skirting the escarpment. The terrain remains very difficult along the path to…

📌 (6h00min; 8.9kms) Cap de la Vall lake (2.660m). We follow the ridge to the left and gain a small pass (2,702m). To the right is the Cap de la Vall Lake; to the left – very low – is the Black Lake. The GR11.5 heads to the left (SE) without losing altitude until another pass (2,676m), to the West of the Tuca de Anglios (2,813m). From this pass we can see the Cap de Llauset refuge. We do not descend directly, but we cross the slope (SE) of the Tuca de Anglios, until we take the ridge that descends to…

📌 (7h10min; 10.8kms) Col dels Estanyets (2.524m). At this point, the GR11.5 variant we came from joins the main route. On the left, the route continues through the Anglios lakes towards the Conangles refuge; on the right, we will finish the stage near the nearby…
