Astún, a snow paradise
Astún has a privileged location, in a valley across the Pyrenean axis, well protected from wind currents, which guarantees sunshine and snow almost from the beginning to the end of each season. Due to its configuration, all the runs converge in the large area that forms the core of the resort, where the hotels, flats, bars and restaurants are also located.
I have my first memories of Astún on skis. It is the youngest ski resort in the Aragonese Pyrenees, it opened its doors in 1976 and almost all the students from Jaca used to go there, at weekends with the Escolapios club and during the white weeks with our classmates. How can we forget those old laced boots that we used to rent, the very long skis that we measured by stretching our hands up high and the mid-morning breaks from school to hitchhike up and take advantage of the almost empty slopes during the week. The instructors used to say then that all of us from Jaca skied equally badly. We had learnt without instructors, of course.
In addition to skiing for La Raca o TruchasAt Astún you come to enjoy the scenery. Don't miss the spectacular views when you leave the Águilas and Canal Roya ski lifts, with the peak Anayet (2,559 m) from the front and Balaitús (3,061 m) on the left.
Snowboard lovers can go down any of Astún's slopes, but the resort also has a snowboarding area, where they can enjoy the Half Pipe and Snow Park. And in the Sarrios area there is an area dedicated exclusively to snowboarding and free style.
