Inle Lake is located in a beautiful valley in the south of Shan State in Myanmar, formerly Burma. A flooded valley that offers beautiful scenery and a peculiar way of life that attracts the attention of all who travel there and leaves its mark.

Watching the skill of the Inle Lake fishermen, visiting the stupas of Shwe Inn Thein, the Paung Da Oo pagoda or the golden Buddhas in the caves of Shwe Umin, are some of the attractions of this beautiful area of Myanmar.

How to visit Myanmar

To visit Myanmar, a visa is required, which can be requested at the Myanmar Embassy, either in Paris (the closest to Spain) or in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. As there are no direct flights from Europe to Myanmar, it is necessary to take a cheap flight to Bangkok and from there another to Yangon, the city from which we will travel to Inle Lake.

Tourism at Inle Lake in Myanmar

In the villages and hamlets built on the shores of Inle Lake, the boat is an authentic way of life for fishermen and farmers. Inle Lake is used and cultivated and its waters form canals between the cultivation areas and the houseboats, stilt houses. One of the main attractions is the markets on Inle Lake, where you can find local silverware and silks.

The village of Ywama is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area, thanks to the Pahung Daw Oo Pagoda, a Buddhist temple with five Buddha statues covered in gold leaf.

A more enclosed canal surrounded by lush vegetation leads to the stupas of Shwe Inn Thein, a thousand-year-old pilgrimage burial monuments hidden in the vegetation. A wonder maintained by the local people, they mark the most north-westerly point of the Khemer migration.

Pagodas, Buddhist temples are without a doubt one of the major attractions around Inle Lake. In addition to those already mentioned, it is interesting to visit the Aung Mingalar Pagoda in the village of Heya Ywana, and the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, a famous Buddhist pilgrimage site that stands on a granite rock covered in gold leaf.

Inle Lake has become one of Myanmar's main tourist destinations, closing a circuit made up of the cities of Rangoon, Bagan and Mandalay. It's an area of great beauty with a different pace of life where the people are friendly.
