"Into the (Un)known", new film by Kilian Jornet
This could be the headline:
In a challenge that redefines the limits of physical and mental endurance, Kilian Jornet returns to the scenes of his childhood in the Pyrenees to face an unprecedented challenge.
In the thrilling film "Into the (Un)known", Kilian not only hikes all the major 3000 metre peaks of the mountain range in just eight days, but also documents the dramatic environmental changes and his deep connection to these mountain landscapes.
With the support of local hut rangers and friends, and guided by his GPX route, Kilian experiences deep personal introspection and a renewed appreciation for nature. This film captures his odyssey and the transformation he experienced as he immersed himself once again in the mountains where he grew up.
Chronicle of the feat
At the time we chronicled the Kilian Jornet's adventure rediscovering the Pyrenees: 177 summits of over 3,000 m in 8 days
Kilian Jornet began his journey at the foot of the Frondella peak and ended it on the Pica d'Estats, to meet up again with the peaks that have seen him grow up, in what he defines as one of the toughest adventures of his life.
In total, it travelled 485.65 kilometres and accumulated a difference in altitude of more than 43,000 metres, in more than 155 hours of physical activity.
His adventure began on Monday 2 October 2023 at the foot of the Frondella peak (Sallent de Gállego, Huesca) with the aim of enjoying the route and crossing the Pyrenees over a total of 177 peaks of more than 3,000 metres. During this journey through some of the most iconic peaks of the Pyrenean mountain range, he climbed more than 40 peaks in a single day, walked for 39 hours straight and cycled to link sections. Despite the accumulated exhaustion, the reward of reaching each peak was well worth it: "going along all these ridges was a pleasure and I really enjoyed the routes. I had climbed these peaks when I was 13 years old but I didn't remember them, and this has made this a very intense experience on a visual level".
