How to get to Sallent de Gallego - La Sarra Reservoir

If you want to get there, you have to leave from Huesca and take the N-330 towards Sabiñänigo. You will have to take a small detour to Biescas, now taking the N-260, and then turn off again, this time onto the A-136 for Sallent de Gallego. A few hundred metres further on you will see a turn-off to this same village, which will take you directly there. Before entering you will have to take the old road to Formigal, along which you will have to continue for 1 and a half kilometres until you turn off the road again to go towards the La Sarra reservoirThe route is only 2 km away. Next to it there are some car parks with food establishments included, where you can take a break if necessary.

Route to the Ibón and Respomuso refuge

The  Sarra reservoir will be the start of the route. This reservoir is reached by the cold waters of the Respomuso reservoir. If you continue along the predetermined path to the left, you will reach a car park and a resting place. After crossing the river you can take a path on the right that will lead you uphill to the  meadows of Tonadizas. Shortly afterwards you will end up giving your senses a treat thanks to the beautiful flora, especially beech trees, as well as natural features such as waterfalls and ravines. If you continue on, you can complete the scene you are witnessing with the largest waterfall of the Clean Water River.

Since the journey began, it should have taken  one hour. After it crosses the broad valley leading to the Llano ChetoAt the very point where the ascent becomes less steep, you will soon cross the Arriel stream. Under its waterfall you will notice that the slope will rise again and you will start to climb. This steep slope is known as the  PINE HILLThrough it we can reach the great waterfall that feeds the river Aguas Limpias.

If you continue ascending on a rocky path, you will eventually notice the scarcity of flora, which indicates the beginning of extensive esplanades of beautiful trees. These will also disappear the higher you go.

After two hours you will end up coming across the huge dam known as the  Respomuso reservoirThe reservoir, which was built in the middle of the last century, is used to harness the power of the water to generate electricity by driving the water down the mountain. There are also underground conduits that feed this beautiful reservoir.

At  2 hours and three quarters You will have reached an altitude of almost 700 metres net altitude difference, but the most important thing is that you will already be in front of the Respomuso reservoir, behind which you will be able to make out, in the distance, the  Respomuso RefugeYou can walk to it in just a quarter of an hour.
