Glimpses of the Overport
-by Miguel Ángel Rupérez Gargallo-
After so many years, I return to my home, in the heart of the Pyrenees, among these mountains of soft and rounded shapes. Crossing the Forcos ravine, along old paths that come up from the lowlands.
I stop in front of the lintel of the house, the emotion of what I have experienced and of what was, makes my skin crawl. There are no houses left standing, no inhabitants to give them life, the vegetation has recovered what was once theirs and the deafening silence fills everything.
It is curious that the mind forgets so many things that happen in the present and instead keeps clear and bright what happened many years ago.
For me; my village, it is still a truth that lives in my memory. No fence or fence surrounds the past time; you can go back and relive whatever you want if you remember. That's why I close my eyes to my village as it is today; and it disappears... and I see it as it was when I was a child, full of life, with the school, the fountain, the church and its people; as real in memory as they were in life.
