    The abyss

    -by Jesús Rodríguez Rupérez-

The wind whipped across Edurne's face, numbing her fingers as she clutched the rock. Ledormeur's chimney, a narrow fissure in the wall of Pallas Peak, opened before her like a dark mouth. With each step, uncertainty grew. One slip and... the abyss.

A gasp escaped his lips as he felt the rock give way beneath his foot. The body collapsed, falling in a frenzied dance of arms and legs. The world became a blur of colours and the mind filled with paralysing terror.

As she hit bottom, the impact knocked the wind out of her. In pain, she opened her eyes. She was stuck on a ledge, metres above the ground. Adrenaline spurred her to look for a way out, but the rock was smooth and there was no handhold. The cold crept into her bones and hope began to fade.
