With snow-capped peaks and tranquil valleys, and a rich Buddhist culture, Bhutan is an ideal destination for trekkers who want to experience the magic of the Himalayas without the commercialism that other areas have. Although independent trekking is not permitted, information can be difficult to obtain.

Visitors to Bhutan can expect breathtaking mountain scenery and unspoilt landscapes, a vibrant culture and genuine hospitality. From classic trekking Lunana 'SnowmanThe Jhomolhari and Dagala treks, and the Druk Path, as well as many other treks - both well-established and other routes of a more exploratory nature, venturing into remote and little-visited areas of the country.

When to go?

The best time for most treks is spring and autumn. Low altitude treks can be done in winter. Be aware of monsoon rains in the summer.

Cities & Services

Most treks start in the western part of Bhutan, in Paro. However, other, but less frequented, treks start from Bumthang and eastern Bhutan.
