The old GR11 route passed by Roncesvalles and headed on up to Puerto de Ibañeta. This section has now been assigned to the GR12, while the GR11 goes further south.

You follow a track that very soon leads you over Aetzubi stream, crossed by both a ford and a foot bridge. You quickly abandon the track and turn left, along a path that rises gently up through a beech forest (on the way to Oiarburu). After about 2.5 kilometres from the start, bordering on an area of meadows, the path crosses a barbed-wire fence and takes a sharp left-hand turn. Pay careful attention at this point.
