Profile of the GR11 Respomuso Refuge - Panticosa Spa stage

↔️ Distance: 13.9 km
📈 Unevenness (+745),(-1260) 📉
🕒 Time: 5h30min (walking time non-stop)
⚠️ Difficulty: A stage through high mountain terrain (frequent snow, unstable rocks...). The Tebarray pass can have snow until mid-August. In the last 50 metres the slope is around 40º, so the ice axe is recommended depending on the conditions. In winter, the access route to the Respomuso refuge may present a high risk of avalanches.
💧 Water: During the stage you will pass several streams and lakes where you can get water.
Suggestions: If you wish to organise the stages differently, you can spend the night in the new Bachimaña lakes refuge. An alternative to this stage is, once you are at the Bachimaña Alto lake-reservoir, to continue along the Bramatuero lakes, cross the Collado del Letrero pass and, via the Batanes lakes, descend to the Ara, where you join the main route on the next stage on the way to Bujaruelo. Another alternative is to extend the previous stage to the Bachimaña refuge and on the following day, link up with the next stage via the pipeline routewithout having to go down to the Panticosa Spa.

📌 (0h0min; 0 kms) Respomuso Hut (2,200m). The path continues in an easterly direction as far as the Campo Plano reservoir. It turns right to cross the river and heads south-southeast following the valley that opens up to the right of the peaks of Campo Plano (2,721) and Llena Cantal (2,941), easily recognisable by their pyramidal silhouette. The path runs through meadows until it reaches the...

📌 (1h25min; 3,4 kms) Ibón de Llena Cantal (2.427m), and then along rocky slopes and the occasional snowdrift depending on the season. The end is rough, and we will reach the ground on several occasions (cable installed, ice axe recommended if there is snow) to get to the...

📌 (2h15min; 4,6 kms) Col of Tebarray or Piedrafita (2.771m). The path runs along the left slope bordering the lake of Tebarray to the Cuello de L'Infierno (5min; 2.721m), below the Picos del Infierno (3.082m), which you ascend from the pass. We start descending along the gorge of Piedrafita - in the distance we see the mass of Vignemale in front of us - through which a stream flows to the Ibones Azules (precarious metal hut). We leave them to the right and continue descending towards Ibón de Bachimaña Alto.

📌 (3h30min; 8,3kms) GR-T junction 24 (2.212m). Shortly before the lake-reservoir we reach this crossroads that links the GR11 with the GR10 via the Transversal 24 through the Marcadau Pass. Continue to the right across the river and continue along the path around the reservoir. After the dam, a smaller one appears below, that of Ibón Baxo de Bachimaña, where you will find the...

📌 (4h05min; 10,0kms) crossing to the refuge of Bachimaña - dam (2.175m). The path descends the Cuesta del Fraile, where the waters of the river Caldarés plunge into the well-known Salto del Fraile. When you reach the bottom, you cross a more or less flat area where you can take waterThe valley is steep, and there are several sections equipped with cables, useful in winter. The valley becomes narrower and there are several sections equipped with cables, which are useful in winter. We continue descending through pine trees, we pass the plain of O Bozuelo -a quiet spot, the starting point for those who descend the Barranco de Caldarés ravine- and face the final descent to the...

📌 (5h30min; 13,3kms) Balneario de Panticosa (1638m). Hotel complex, spa, mountain hut, souvenir shop, etc.
