Stage 9: Zuriza - Aguas Tuertas

↔️ Distance: 18.8 km
📈 Unevenness (+1.160),(-770) 📉
🕒 Time: 5h50min (walking time non-stop)
⚠️ Difficulty: This is a stage of no notable difficulty, except for the difference in altitude and distance. The path is well signposted and the route through the valley is obvious.
💧 Water: Throughout the stage, except for the highest part, we will find streams where we can get water.
Council: The end of the stage is at the Aguas Tuertas free refuge. Make sure you have a sleeping bag, mat and food for the next day, and even for another day, until Sallent de Gállego. When we passed through Candanchú last time, all the tents were closed. In the hostels of Candanchú, you can have dinner, breakfast and they prepare picnic bags. In Zuriza, the campsite has a tent.

📌 (0h0min; 0kms) Zuriza (1.223m). Take the track that starts just below the campsite on a horseshoe bend (GR11 signpost), heading towards the Petraficha ravine. To the left, the slopes of Quimboa, to the right, the Ruzquia Peak (2074m), the start of the elongated Sierra de Alano, reminiscent of the Dolomites. The ascent along the track to the Taxeras car park is gentle, and we pass a couple of streams 💧 and a source💧 where water can be taken.

(0h30min; 2.8kms) Llano de Tacheras (1.283m). Just before the car park we leave the track to continue along a path that climbs uphill to the left. The track makes a big bend and crosses a car crossing. GR11.1 along the Estribiella Neckafter which there is a source💧 next to the river on the left hand side. After 5′ we pass by some ruins and 10′ later we reach the Taxeras refuge (in poor condition). From here onwards the GR goes up the Barranco de Petraficha ravine on the right bank until reaching the...

(2h20min; 7.2kms) Col of Petraficha (1.963m). To the north Petraficha (2186m), to the south Chipeta Alto (2175m) is accessible. The path descends steeply - the panoramic views are fabulous towards the Acherito ravine and the Aragón Subordán valley. Towards the end of the descent we pass next to the Sabucar refuge (stable), then the path zigzags a few times and comes out onto a track, at the height of a bridge that crosses the stream coming from the Acherito and Las Foyas ravines.

(3h55min; 11.7kms) Guarrinza - La Mina bridge-parking place (1,225m). Next to the bridge, some signs inform about the ruins of the Casa de la Mina (old Carabineros house) and about the GR65.3.3, a variant of the Camino de Santiago through the Puerto de Palo. At this point, if we follow the track to the right, we will continue along the Way of St. James and along the old route of the GR11.1 variant. After 10 minutes we pass in front of the old Refugio Militar de la Mina where we find several buildings, some in ruins, others used by livestock and the only one in good condition, closed. Continue on and after 10 minutes you will pass a footbridge on the right where you can cross over to the track. The path ascends along the left bank of the Aragón Subordan, through an area rich in megalithic remains. After an hour from the footbridge we pass the bridge d'os Chitanos and 15′ later we reach the track. We will not continue along it and we will do the last stretch of the ascent to the Achar de Aguas Tuertas following the shortcuts.
